Hot Tub Water Care

Achieving proper water balance in your hot tub is essential for maintaining water clarity, preventing equipment damage, and ensuring bather comfort. Water balance refers to the harmonious interaction of several key factors, including pH level, alkalinity, calcium hardness, and sanitizer levels.

1. pH Level: The pH level of your hot tub water measures its acidity or alkalinity on a scale of 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. Ideally, the pH level of hot tub water should be maintained between 7.2 and 7.8, as this range provides optimal conditions for sanitizer effectiveness and bather comfort.

2. Alkalinity: Total alkalinity acts as a buffer that helps stabilize the pH level of your hot tub water. Proper alkalinity levels, typically between 80 and 120 parts per million (ppm), prevent rapid fluctuations in pH and ensure water balance.

3. Calcium Hardness: Calcium hardness measures the concentration of dissolved calcium in your hot tub water. Maintaining appropriate calcium hardness levels, typically between 150 and 250 ppm, helps prevent scale formation and corrosion of hot tub surfaces and equipment.

Hot Tub Safety

ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION/REPAIRS
If you are not a certified electrical expert, leave repairs and installation to an electrician. Improper electrical install could void warranties.

ELECTRICITY & WATER
Do not handle any electrical device when you have been in contact with water or are wet.

USER SAFETY
Always hot tub with a buddy. Both children and adults can drown in a hot tub.

GUEST SAFETY
You are responsible for the safety of guests, visitors and pets in and around the hot tub. Make sure you educate people with the rules of usage and take necessary precautions.

MAINTENANCE
Follow the proper maintenance procedures, like changing filters and cleaning to keep your hot tub sanitary, safe and in proper working order.

DRUGS & ALCOHOL
The effects of drugs and alcohol can be amplified with the hot water, so use precaution and consult with your doctor.

JETS & PORTS
Keep fingers, toes, and hair away from jets and other holes in the tub to prevent injury.

HOT TUB COVER
Cover and lock your hot tub when not in use to hinder children, pets and debris from entering.

PETS
It is not recommended that pets soak in the hot tub as it is dangerous for them and harmful for the tub.

YOUNG CHILDREN
Young children, specifically under 5 years of age, should have limited, if any, hot tub exposure. All children must have adult supervision.

PREGNANT WOMEN
Pregnant women should avoid or limit hot tub exposure, as it can harm the fetus. A warm bath is a better alternative.

SOAKING TIME
Limit soaking time to 15 minutes. Extended soaking at high temperatures can raise body temperature to an unsafe level.

SPA TEMPERATURE
The temperature should be no hotter than 104°F.

COMMON SPA HOW-TO’S

How-To Remove Side Panel On Your Hot Tub

On a Platinum Spa brand hot tub, you first need to remove two corner panels by pulling straight down on the corner panel and lightly move side to side for it to slip out from the top.
Then disconnect the LED lighting cables, and set aside.
With an electric drill, use a 10 mm socket to remove the two bolts.
With both corner panels removed, you can now grab the side panel from the bottom, pull towards you, and gently move side to side to have the panel drop from the top.

When you replace the two bolts DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN!

How-To Remove An Air Lock From Your Hot Tub
If you turn on your tub and hear a humming sound but no flow of water, this indicates an air pocket in your hot tub.

ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS TO REMEMBER TO AVOID AN AIR LOCK:
When you initially fill up your hot tub – the garden house needs to be placed within the filter area NOT the base of the hot tub. Don’t throw the hose into the footwell. Filling the tub from the filter area allows the plumbing to fill up first and then flow into the actual tub. This helps avoid creating an air bubble within the plumbing.

HOW TO REMOVE THE AIR BUBBLE OR AIRLOCK
TURN OFF THE HOT TUB
Remove the side panel and locate the humming pump.
Loosen the pump union slowly.
You should hear some air leave – or you will see some water drip.
This should remove the air lock.
Tighten the pump union back up securely.
Turn on the hot tub and check that the flow of water is working.

A SECOND OPTION
Locate the diverter valve.
Unscrew the cap below.
Pull up the stem, and you may hear a whisp of air release.
Put the stem back down and tighten the cap well.

How-To Remove RV Antifreeze From Your Hot Tub

In winter months hot tubs are delivered from the manufacturer with RV antifreeze to protect the waterlines from freezing due to any residual water left after testing. Follow the steps below to fully flush the antifreeze from the lines and pumps.

Step 1 – Insert your garden hose into the spa filter housing. Fill with enough water to cover the footwell space.

Step 2 – Turn off hose. Drain the water out with the side spa drain plug. You can also use a shop vacuum.

Repeat steps one and two until the water is clear when filling up the footwell.

Now your spa is ready to fill completely to the correct level for soaking and enjoying your spa.

Filling the spa and draining once is typically sufficient but you may use this rinsing process additional times if you so choose.
